Information about Monroe County's two historic train depots is found on this page.

There are two train depots in Monroe County (Forsyth, Georgia). The "oldest" of the train depots is called the Conley Building. It is the one we have selected for the students in Valencia, Spain to create a 3-D model using Google SketchUp.

THE CONLEY BUILDING (33⁰ 02' 09.60" N - 83⁰ 56' 06.64" W)

The old rock depot is on Adams Street. In 1845, the Monroe Railroad Company was sold and reorganized as the Macon and Western Railroad. In 1846, regular freight and passenger service was started, making necessary the construction of this first passenger and freight depot. Extremely busy during the War Between the States (US Civil War), the depot served as an unloading point for wounded soldiers from the various battles in north Georgia and Atlanta. From here they were moved to one of the several confederate hospitals established in Forsyth. The building is named for Thomas G. Conley, a local dentist and benefactor of Monroe County Historical society

The "New" Depot ( 33⁰ 02' 07.12" N - 83⁰ 56' 03.45" W )

Opened in 1899 as an additional depot near the Conley Building, by the Central of Georgia Railway Company, the depot was designed to have a tile roof, a main waiting room, a ticket office, and adjoining to the north, a freight office. This building is home of the Monroe County Historical Society. Both depots are close to one another and are both on Adams Street.
